The NFL Televised Game Schedules for 2015-2016

Upcoming NFL Season for KMEG (CBS) and KPTH (FOX)

As we head into another incredible NFL season on KMEG/CBS 14 and KPTH/Fox 44 here in Siouxland there are some interesting news items and games scheduled this year – not to mention the Golden Super Bowl 50 on KMEG and CBS!!!  Thursday night prime time games return for us on KMEG/CBS 14.  There will be eight (8) Thursday night Prime Time games this year and it starts with a BIG one for Siouxland and ends with a BIG one for Siouxland.  The first Thursday night game  features the Denver Broncos vs Kansas C ity Chiefs on 9/17/15 – Arrowhead will be rockin’ for this one!  The last Thursday night game will pit Green Bay vs Detroit on 12/3/15 and could be a pivotal game in the NFC North.  We have a schedule of great games for you again this year.  Before I get to that let me reiterate below how the broadcast of games works for our two stations.  This is repeated from last year’s BLOG.

The reality of life in Siouxland relating to the NFL is this - FOX (KPTH) carries the NFC and CBS (KMEG) carries the AFC.  That means that, generally speaking, we will carry the Vikings games on FOX and the Chiefs games on CBS.  Now, once in a while a scenario develops where we might have a week where the Vikings are playing an AFC team and the league has designated that game as a CBS game instead of a FOX game.  So in that scenario we would carry the Vikings game on CBS (KMEG) – unless there was a Chiefs game assigned to CBS (KMEG) that aired at the same time (i.e. both early game start times).  The reverse could also happen with a Chiefs game versus an NFC opponent being assigned to FOX.

So as a rule we will always try to carry the Vikings on FOX, the Chiefs on CBS and, in unusual circumstances involving cross-conference opponents for these two teams, we will defer to the team assigned to that network (Vikings FOX, Chiefs CBS) first and then if possible carry the Vikings on CBS (as long as it doesn’t conflict with a Chiefs game) and the Chiefs on FOX (as long as it doesn’t conflict with a Vikings game).

This is how double-headers work.  As a rule, in non-NFL team markets, one network gets two games on one Sunday (double-header) while the other network on the same Sunday receives one game (single-header). Sometimes one network will get two double-header weeks in a row.  This is NFL scheduling folks, not the local stations. If we have a Vikings game with an early start on FOX and it is a single-header week for FOX we cannot carry the second game on FOX even if it is Green Bay or Chicago because it is a double-header designated week for CBS (KMEG).

So for purposes of explanation here is how the 2015 television season breaks out for single-header and double-header weeks between FOX (KPTH) and CBS (KMEG) here in Siouxland:

FOX (KPTH) Single-header weeks:  9/13, 9/27, 10/11, 10/18, 11/8, 11/15, 11/26 (Thanksgiving Day Game), 11/29, 12/20

FOX (KPTH) Double-header weeks:  9/20, 10/4, 10/25, 11/1 (actually 3 games this day as the Detroit vs Kansas City game from London starts at 8:30am), 11/22, 12/6, 12/13, 12/27, 1/3*

CBS (KMEG) Single-header weeks:  9/20, 10/25, 11/1, 11/22, 11/26(Thanksgiving Day Game), 12/6, 12/13 12/28

CBS (KMEG) Double-header weeks:  9/13, 9/27, 10/4, 10/11, 10/18, 11/8, 11/15, 11/29, 12/20, 1/3*

CBS Thursday night Prime Time games in 2014:  9/17, 9/24, 10/1, 10/8, 10/15, 10/22, 10/29, 12/3

You will notice that there are several instances this coming season where one network gets two double-headers in a row.  This is network and NFL scheduling again folks, not me or our stations scheduling it.  Each network local affiliate gets to carry 28 regular season games in the 2015/2016 season.

*Also, on 1/3, both networks get a double-header.

The schedules for each station are listed below.  These are subject to change if the league and NBC, as an example, decide to move a game for playoff implication reasons to a Sunday night.

So let’s take a look at the CBS (KMEG) schedule first:
